| IF THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE, WHERE DO I GO? |
| First, you
are allowed to have your car towed to the autobody shop of your choice. Even if your car is towed to a shop that is nearby, it does not mean that the repairs are to be completed there. You can request that repairs are completed at the shop of your choice, even if it means a second tow is necessary. In some cases, insurance companies are more interested in having your car brought to the most cost effective, or 'direct repair' shop. A direct repair shop is one that has made a previous agreement with your Insurance Company to work under their guidelines. An insurance company can suggest that you bring your vehicle to a direct repair shop, but they cannot force you. This is called 'steering' and it is illegal. |
