| WHAT IS A DIRECT REPAIR SHOP? |
| There are
at least 43 body shops in the greater Concord area. How can so many shops
survive within a population of roughly 65,000 people? One of the ways a shop can try to get more customers is by becoming a 'direct repair shop'. This means they will agree to Insurance Company's requirements in exchange for the insurance company's recommendation to its customers. If an insurance company ever insists that your car be brought to a certain shop, and cannot be brought anywhere else, that is called steering, and it is illegal. What benefit is this to the customer? None. Its only beneficial to the insurance company, who receives high volume discounts from the shop, and to the shop, who is getting work that it may not otherwise receive. Recent marketing efforts have tried to make direct repair shops sound more 'qualified' to repair vehicles, but they offer no substantive data to back this claim up.
